Meals
Nutritious camp meals are prepared under the careful supervision of our trained food service
staff and satisfy the appetites of campers and staff. Fresh fruit, cereal, and vegetables are offered
every day. A salad bar is available during most lunches and dinners. At mealtime counselors guide
campers towards healthy and appropriate choices. Vegetarian options are always available. Food
allergies and other special dietary needs should be indicated on the Camper Health Form. Please
feel free to call 616-459-2267 with any food allergies and/or dietary concerns to speak with a
Camp Henry staff member.
Camp Store
The camp store is open daily for campers. Sports drinks, healthy snack choices, chips, pretzels, and
bottled water are options for campers and each cost $1. Campers are limited to one drink and one
snack per visit. Campers can deposit money in advance or during opening day. Recommended
deposit amounts are $20 for full week camps and $5 for mini-week camps. Camp clothing is
available on opening and closing day. Any money remaining in a camper’s account at the end of
the week can be donated to the Camp Store scholarship fund. Store items range in price from 50
cents to $45.
High Adventure Activities
It is our goal to get every camper off the ground during their time at Camp Henry. We offer a
variety of High Adventure programs and campers will participate in an age appropriate High
Adventure activity with their cabin. High Adventure activities range from our bouldering wall to
our High Ropes Course.
First Time Campers/Homesickness
Homesickness in first time campers is common. Parents can help the adjustment of their campers
by leaving them on a positive note. Make sure to set your camper up for success by letting them
know you expect them to have fun. Help them to set some goals for camp (meeting people,
learning something new, etc.) before you leave and be enthusiastic about their time at camp.
“Childsick” parents often lead to homesick campers.
It is best to not promise a camper they can come home if they do not like camp. The Camp Henry
Staff is well trained to help campers adjust to camp by immediately involving them in goal setting,
team building, and fun activities. Parental support and encouragement are crucial to the
happiness of the child; Camp Henry has an extremely high success rate of working with
campers and parents. A Leadership Staff member will contact parents if a child is homesick to let
them know that we are working through the challenge. Encouraging comments in letters (“we
know you are having a great time at camp,” “we look forward to hearing about everything you are
doing,” “have fun at camp because you are not missing out on anything here”) are also helpful in
this process. Though homesickness is common in first-time campers, it is usually short lived due
to all the fun and caring people and dynamic activities at Camp Henry!
Carryovers (Campers who stay at camp longer than one session)
Only campers attending consecutive sessions may choose to participate as Carryovers by
registering in advance. The Carryover session usually includes ordering pizza, a chance to take
care of laundry (detergent provided), water activities at camp, movies, and time to rest and relax!
Transportation
Camp Henry offers One-Way and Round-Trip transportation to and from the Gerald R. Ford
International Airport to campers flying to Grand Rapids for camp. One-Way Transportation is
available for $15 and Round-Trip Transportation is available for $25. Parents will receive additional
information about airport transportation once your registration is complete.
